Very long weekend, shopping and preparations

Still here...

The weekend was lovely, as Thursday, Friday and Monday were public holidays we managed to spend a lot of time together and surprisingly, since the shops were only open on Saturday we managed to spend a LOT of money.

Wednesday afternoon we went to the DIY shop and picked up some shelves and other stuff. Some of the shelves have gone up in the baby room and the others are for the shed, because S want to organise it. After all a man needs his shed to be organised, right?

The biggest expense, however, was the pram which we bought on Saturday - wow those things are pricey - I hope that Stumpy appreciates it. We then had to stop by the supermarket for some supplies and had our first trying to shop with a pram experience. It didn't help that the place was rammed due it it being the only day of the 5-day weekend that it was open but it's going to be fun negotiating it in future.

We also got some re-usable nappies delivered last week I decided on totsbots in the end as they seemed to have good reviews so we'll see how it goes. We're planning to use disposables to begin with as we've heard it's easier when babies are tiny but I hope the washables work out as I don't really want to add to the never degrading nappy mountain. Oh and S has now practised putting a nappy on a teddy bear so there will be no excuses heard about nappy changing when Stumpy comes. (yeah I know babies wriggle and used nappies smell but I can hope).

Oh we also decided that the Danish word for breastfeeding is onomatopoeic, it's "amning" and I think it sounds like the noise a baby might make while feeding.

So I guess we're pretty much ready now, I go on leave on Tuesday and then we just have to wait...

35. uge, fint, store baby

That is what my GP wrote in my notes today, translation: "35th week, fine, big, baby" - yeah ok you probably could have worked most of that out.

Blood pressure, urine test etc are all fine. She said she wasn't surprised that I'm suffering with heartburn since he is taking up all the available space. Then she said that a big baby is good and will result in an easier birth. yeah riiiiight. The rest of my pregnancy care is down to the midwives and hospital so she ended the consultation by letting me know that she'll see me when the baby is 5 weeks for his first check-up (bloody hell it looks like I'm going to have an actual take home baby!!).

In other news, the weather here has gone bonkers, yesterday it was so warm and sunny that we sat outside in the garden to eat our lunch. Today it has been snowing all day.

Here in Denmark we get Thursday, Friday and Monday as public holidays so I'm looking forward to getting a lot of stuff done around the house (a really good clean is overdue for a start) and spending some quality time with S.

Stockholm

Ooops I guess I haven't blogged all week again. I thought I'd start with a trip report from our long weekend in Stockholm. After checking in to our hotel on Saturday we jumped on a short ferry trip to Djurgården and explored Skansen an open air museum with examples of houses from all over Sweden and some wildlife too.

I think this hut looks like it's about to run away

An Elk
On Sunday we took a lunch cruise out into the Archipelago around Stockholm, the weather wasn't great but there were a lot of nice houses on the islands.
Monday I explored a little and Tuesday I wandered around the old town. I stumbled across a state visit of the Romanian president at the palace so there were lots of soldiers about in all their finery
and I saw the Swedish king (he's on the right in uniform)
The old town is very pretty
With lots of narrow streets.and great cafes
Definitely worth a visit and it was great to spend a weekend with S without him being stressed about exams.

34 weeks - pregnancy stuff

I swear Stumpy is trying to break my ribs, he tries to jam himself up there every day at some point. This means that even if my bra feels fine when I put it on in the morning, there is a point every day when it is too tight and I want to rip it off and throw it across the room. Oh and it hurts!

Both my nipples are periodically leaking "stuff" onto the inside of my bra - sometimes it is enough that I have visible drips. I'm assuming this is a good sign as I'm hoping to breast feed.

The peeing - all.the.time. - not fun, neither are the leaks when I cough, laugh, sneeze or gag.

The heartburn and acid related coughing fits - yuck.

I have a few stretch marks on my boobs but so far (touch wood) none on my belly.

I love feeling him move around even when it does make me uncomfortable.

I'm hoping he drops soon as I am struggling to get my breath a lot of the time.

My (very sweet) husband already looks stressed about the strain that this is having on my body and how he can't really do anything to make it better - god knows how he's going to cope with me in labour.

tagged, midwife, and long weekends

I've been tagged by Niobe for the book meme so here goes.

The rules are simple. Look up from the computer, look around the room where you're sitting and pick up the closest book. Open the book, turn to page 123, count down to the fifth sentence on that page, and then post the next three sentences.

Since S has been studying, the nearest book is one of his textbooks...

"In T 835/00 D1, which the opposition division considered the closest prior art, did not mention any of the problem aspects addressed by the claimed invention. As a consequence, a technical problem was created which was unrelated to the actual disclosure of D1 but whose solution was then found to be obvious in the light of the disclosure of D2. The board referred to T 686/91 and stated that it was a fatal defect that a prior art disclosure from which no relevant technical problem could be formulated without inappropriate hindsight had been chosen as a starting point for the application of the problem and solution approach, because without such hindsight any attempt to establish a logical chain of considerations which might lead to the claimed invention inevitably ran into difficulties at the start, for want of a relevant identifiable goal or object."

I have two comments

  1. I only sort of understand this
  2. OMG legal stuff is written in really long sentences!
I tag Artblog, Rebecca, LIW and SaraS-P.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a check up with the midwife today and everything is as it should be. She estimates that Stumpy is about 2.2 kg (4.8 lbs) and says he is head down with his bum (numse) up and to my left side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

S has to go to Stockholm to give a presentation on Monday so we decided to both go on Saturday morning and stay until Tuesday to allow some site seeing. We've never been to Stockholm but have heard that it's really nice so watch out for some pictures next week.

Mothering Sunday

In the UK, Sunday was mother's day, it is a day linked to the date of Easter and was traditionally the day when people visited their mother church.

Despite my ever increasing belly and Stumpy's regular kicks and wriggles it is still very hard to believe that next year I will be celebrating this day as a mother as well as a daughter.
